About us
Necessity is the mother of invention
Such is true with the origins of Overland Equipped. In 2016, as founders Matt Cannell and John Campbell prepared for a 2,400-mile adventure across the northwestern states of America, we were struck with a specific problem...
How can you maximize gear hauling real estate by attaching a backup gas tank as well as an exterior trash bag to your ladder, but also retain the use of the ladder to reach the rooftop tent? The bolt-on ladder step was born!
The ladder step, our first product, sparked the creation of Overland Equipped and set us down the path in search of fresh ideas to develop and sell better products that enhance the overland journey.
John took over complete ownership of the business at the end of 2017 and continues running the operation based out of Boise, Idaho.

Your journey is the destination
Whatever you might call it—overland adventure, overlanding, off-road camping, vehicle dependent exploration, expedition, mall crawling—one thing is certain when doing this, the journey is the destination. A destination is an endpoint, but for individuals who seek a lifetime of continuous outdoor exploration, adventure and experiences—that journey becomes the destination. And we like to think it's never finished.
Knowing this, our goal is to make and sell high-quality gear for your journey.
What you can expect as a customer
We seek a different path for the products we make and sell. If we haven't used it, abused it and can't attest to the standards and expectations our customers demand, then we won't sell it. We also look to offer products that are made in the USA whenever possible.
If our customers are ever dissatisfied, we'll bend over backwards to make it right. There's countless businesses you can buy gear from, and many just want to make the transaction and move on to the next customer. With Overland Equipped, exceptional service is our promise. We'll pick up the phone, call you by your first name and ask for honest feedback. If we don't have an answer to your question or a product to solve your problem, we'll do our best to help you find it.
